Junior Choir

Established in Autumn 2021, the Junior Choristers of St Lawrence and St George are a church choir for children aged 7-13 with unbroken voices.

Since 2021, the choir has been made up of children from St George’s RC Primary School, but from September 2023 we are fortunate enough to be expanding our reach with the help of York Music Hub and The Ouseley Trust, and are inviting children from all over York to audition to join.

This year the choir will meet weekly during term time on Mondays, 5:15pm – 6:30pm. Due to a limited number of spaces the choir will be auditioned to join, but if successful, is free to attend. The Choristers perform at a number of services and events per year, learning a mixture of sacred and secular music. Dates for these events will be released at the start of each term.

All staff involved with the Junior Choir are required to be DBS checked.

Audition Information

Auditions are relaxed and friendly. They will take place at St Lawrence Parish Church with our Director of Music, Mr Ward, and Choir Leader, Miss Walker, and will last 5-10 minutes approx. Children are asked to sing either “Home on the Range” or “Away in a Manger” followed by some short unprepared listening exercises. The material for the prepared songs can be found below.
